A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA CREATING A CITIZEN TASK FORCE TO
DETERMINE WHETHER A PEACE AND ECOLOGY COMMISSION
SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED
WHEREAS, the city of Santa Monica has long been in the
forefront of advancing environmentally sound practices and
programs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica has actively advocated
the redirection of federal funds from military spending to social
programs,
the
rebuilding
of
the
Country's
economic
infrastructure, and toward purposes which would advance world
peace; and
WHEREAS, several hundred citizens of the City of Santa
Monica have petitioned the city Council to create a Peace and
Ecology commission that would concern itself with environmental
and world peace issues,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
A citizen task force appointed by the City
council of the City of Santa Monica consisting of ~ members is
created and shall explore whether a commission devoted to issues

of world peace and ecology should be created in the City of Santa
Monica.
SECTION 2. The task force is authorized to conduct pUblic
hearings, gather information and to report its findings and
recommendations to the city council by June 30, 1991.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
