RESOLUTION NO. 6670(CCS)

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA COMMENDING THE HONORABLE RUTH VANNATTA
GOLDWAY, MAYOR, FOR HER DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA.
WHEREAS, Ruth Vannatta Goldway was first elected to serve
on the City Council of the City of Santa Monica 1n April, 1979 for a
four year term, and was elected Mayor Pro Tempore in November, 1979;
and
WHEREAS) she was elected by her fellow council members to
serve as mayor in Apr11, 1981, and has served the City in that capacity
Slnce that time; and
WHEREAS, as mayor, Ruth Vannatta GDldwa~ has unselfishly
devoted herself full time to work on behalf of the City of Santa Monica
with an "open door" policy, making herself available to all citizens at
any time while representing the City wlth the State Legislature, the
United States Congress, and the bUSlness community; and
WHEREAS, prior to serving as mayor, Ruth Vannatta Goldway
worked in the capacity of consumer advocate and was the first public
member ever to be appointed to a State Agricultural Board and further
accomplished reforms in areas of affordable housing, discrimination
against children in housing, dissemination of information on current
equal credit laws, and legislatlve advocacy on behalf of consumers for
food and health lssues; and

WHEREAS~ Mayor Goldway has used her special leadership talents
in enacting and carrying out city programs such as rational community
planning, the Farmer1s Market~ consumer representation to improve local
telephone service, pler and carousel restoration. social service and
cultural affairs funding, and affirmative action.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Mayor Ruth Vannatta Goldway has glven generously
of herself and her time, and she is hereby commended for her many services
to thlS community.
SECTION 2. The City Council of the Clty of Santa Monica, on
behalf of the citizens of this community. expresses its profound
appreciation to Mayor Ruth Vannatta Goldway for her many contributions
which have enriched the lives of the citizens of the City of Santa Monica,
for her enthusiastic and devoted community service and leadership, and
for her contrlbutions to the quality of life in our city and state.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk is directed to send a certified copy
of this resolution to Mayor Ruth Vannatta Goldway.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution. and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in
full force and effect.
