RESOLUTION NO. 6679
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA DESIGNATING THE AREA BOUNDED
BY FOURTH STREET, WILSHIRE BOULEVARD, SEVENTH
STREET AND COLORADO AVENUE AS AN UNDERGROUND
UTILITY DISTRICT, ORDERING THE REMOVAL OF
POLES, OVERHEAD WIRES, AND ASSOCIATED OVERHEAD
STRUCTURES THEREFROM, AND ORDERING THE
UNDERGROUND INSTALLATION OF WIRES AND
FACILITIES FOR SUPPLYING ELECTRIC,
COMMUNICATION, AND SIMILAR OR ASSOCIATED
SERVICE.

WHEREAS, the C1ty Counc11 on June 25, 1968, dld adopt
Ordinance No. 773 (City Council Ser1es), adding Chapter 9 to
Artic1e VII of the Santa Monlca Munlc1pal Code, establish1ng
regulations and procedures for overhead and underground ut1l1ty
facilit1es; and
WHEREAS, the C,ty Council, on February 11, 1969, did
adopt an approved ut1l1ty underground1ng program; and
WHEREAS, the City Counc1l desires to deslgnate the area
bounded by Fourth Street, W1lshire Boulevard, Seventh Street and
Colorado Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the Clty Counc1l of the C1ty of Santa Mon1ca
hereby f1nds that such undergrounding is 1n the general public
1nterest for the follOWing reasons:
1. Such underground1ng w1ll eliminate an unusually
heavy concentrat1on of overhead distribution
faC1l1t1es;
2. Said street is extens1vely used by the general
publlC and carrles a heavy volume of vehicular
traff1C; and

3. Sa1d street passes through an area which would
benefit from the aesthetic lmprovement
result1ng from such underground1ng.
NOW2 THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That said C1ty Council proposes to initiate
proceedings for the establ1shment of an Underground Utility
Dlstr1ct 1n the area bounded by Fourth Street, Wilshire Boulevard,
Seventh Street and Colorado Avenue, all w1thin the City of Santa
Mon1ca.
SECTION 2. That notice hereby is given that on Tuesday
the 14th day of June. 1983. at 7:30 P.M. 1n the Council Chambers
located 1n the City Hall. 1685 Main Street. Santa Mon1ca,
California, there shall be a publ1C hear1ng before sa1d City
Council for the purpose of determining whether the public
necess1ty, health, safety or welfare requires the above descrlbed
improvement.
SECTION 3. That the C1ty Clerk shall glve notice of the
hearing by post1ng a copy of this resolution on the Counc1l
Chamber door and by notifying all affected property owners as
shown on the last equalized assessment roll and utilities
concerned by mail of the time and place of such hearing at least
ten (10) days prior to the date thereof.
SECTION 4, That the C1ty Clerk hereby is directed to
publ1Sh th1S resolutlon in the Even1ng Outlook on two successive
dates, the f1rst publicatlon to be made not less than ten (10)
days prior to the date of the above publ1C hearing.

SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall cert1fy to the adoption
of this Resolut1on, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall
be 1n full force and effect.
