RESOLUTION NO. 6702 (CCS)
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA FINDING THE PUBLIC NECESSITY,
HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE REQUIRES. WITHIN
A CERTAIN DESIGNATED AREA, THE UNDERGROUND
INSTALLATION OF WIRES AND FACILITIES SUPPLYING
ELECTRIC, COMMUNICATION OR SIMILAR OR ASSOCIATED
SERVICES AND DESIGNATING SUCH CERTAIN AREA AN
UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT AND ORDERING THE
REMOVAL OF POLES, OVERHEAD WIRES AND ASSOCIATED
OVERHEAD STRUCTURES WITHIN SUCH DISTRICT AND THE
UNDERGROUND INSTALLATION OF SUCH WIRES AND
FACILITIES.
WHEREAS, a public hearing has been duly and regularly held
pursuant to Resolut1on No. 6679 (City Council Ser1es), on the proposed
improvement of an area bounded by the centerlines of Fourth Street. W1lshire
Boulevard. Seventh Street and Colorado Avenue by undergrounding of utllitles
and appurtenant work thereto as described in Resolution No. 6679 (C.C.S.);
and
WHEREAS, said improvement has been considered fully;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council hereby finds the public necessity,
health, safety and welfare requ1res the above described improvement 1n such
designated area.
SECTION 2. The C1ty Council hereby f1nds such undergrounding
is in the general publ1C 1nterest for the following reasons:
A. Such undergrounding will el1minate an unusually heavy
concentration of overhead distribution facllities; and
B. Said streets are extensively used by the general public
and carr1es a heavy volume of vehicular traffic.
SECTION 3. The area bounded by the centerllnes of Fourth Street,

Wilsh1re Boulevard, Seventh Street and Colorado Avenue 1S hereby declared
to be an underground ut1lity d1str1ct as provided by the Santa ~onica
Municipal Code.
SECTION 4. The C1ty Council hereby orders t~e removal of all
poles, overhead wires and assoc1ated overhead structures from within the
designated underground utility district and tne underground installation
therein of all wires and facil1ties requlred for supplying electr1c, commun1-
cation, or slmilar or assoc1ated services. The exception provided for 1n
Santa Mon1ca Mun1cipal Code Sectlon 7905 (e) is hereby incorporated into
th1S Resolut1on.
SECTIO~ 5. The C1ty Counc1l hereby fixes twelve (12) months
from the effective date of thlS resolution as the tlme wlthin which such
removal and underground lnstallat10n shall be accomplished.
SECTION 6. Upon the effective date of th1S resolutlon, the
City Clerk is directed to forthwith comply with the prOV1S1ons of Section
7906 of the Santa ~onica Mun1c1pal Code.
SECTION 7. The C1ty Clerk shall cert1fy to the adoption of
th1S resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the saMe shall be in full
force and effect.
