A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROCLAIMING THE
CONTINUED EXISTENCE OF THE LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Municipal Code Sectlon 2305 authorizes the
Director of Emergency Services to procla1..m the existence or
threatened existence of a local emergency when the Clty of Santa
Monica lS affected or llkely to be affected by a publlC calamity
and the Clty Council is not 1n sesslon: and
WHEREAS, commencing on January 27, 1983, conditions of
extreme peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen
wlthln the Clty of Santa Monica caused by storm, high tides, and
heavy surf; and
WHEREAS, the Clty Council was not in session on January 27,
1983: and
WHEREAS, on January 27, 1983, the Director of Emergency
SerVlces of the Clty of Santa Monlca did proclaiM the existence
of a local emergency wlthln the Clty of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, on February I, 1983, the City Council adopted
Resolution Number 6621 (CCS), ratlfying, confirming, and
approving, the proclamatlon of local emergency by the Director of
Emergency Services; and

WHEREAS, commenclng on March 1, 1983, conditions of extreme
peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen wi th1n
the Clty of Santa Monlca caused by storm, high tldes, and heavy
surf; and
WHEREAS, the City Councll was not in seSS10n at the time of
condlt1ons giving rise to the emergency; and
WHEREAS, on March I, 1983, the Dlrector of Emergency
SerVlces of the C1ty of Santa Monica did proclalm the eXlstence
of a local emergency wlthln the City of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, on March 8, 1983, the City Councll adopted
Reso1utlon Number 6642 (CCS), rat1fYlng, confirm1ng, and
approving, the proclamatlon of local emergency by the Director of
Emergency Serv1ces: and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code Section 8630, the City
Councll has reV1ewed the need to continue the local emergency,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNC II. OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The local emergency as proclaimed by the
Director of Emergency Servlces on January 27, 1983, shall be
deemed to continue to exist in the C1ty of Santa Monica until its
termination is procla1med by the Cl ty Counc 11 of the City of
Santa Monlca.
SECTION 2. The local emergency as proclaimed by the
Director of Emergency Servlces on March 1, 1983, shall be deemed
to contlnue to exist In the C1ty of Santa Monlca until its
termlnatlon is proclalmed by the C1 ty Counc il of the C1 ty of
Santa Monica.

SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall cert1fy to the adoption of
this Resolut1on, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
1n full force and effect.
