A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROCLAIMING THE
CONTINUED EXISTENCE OF THE LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Municlpal Code Section 2305 author1zes the
D1rector of Emergency Serv1ces to proclaim the eXlstence or
threatened eXlstence of a local emergency when the City of Santa
Monlca 1S affected or likely to be affected by a public calamity
and the Clty Councll 1S not in session; and
WHEREAS, cormnencing on January 27,1983, condlt10ns of
extreme perll to the safety of persons and property have arisen
w1thln the City of Santa Monica caused by storm, high tides, and
heavy surf; and
WHEREAS, the C1ty Council was not in session on January 27,
1983; and
WHEREAS, on January 27, 1983, the Dl.rec tor of Emergency
Services of the City of Santa Monica dld proclal.m the eXlstence
of a local emergency wl.thin the City of Santa Monicai and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1983, the C1 ty Councll adopted
Resolution Number 6621 (CCS), ratifying, confirmlng, and
approvlng, the proclamatlon of local emergency by the Director of
Emergency Servlces; and

WHEREAS, commencing on March 1, 1983, conditions of extreme
perl1 to the safety of persons and property have arisen Wl th1n
the City of Santa Monlca caused by storm, high tides, and heavy
surf; and
WHEREAS, the Clty Councl1 was not in seSSlon at the time of
condit1ons giving rlse to the emergency; and
WHEREAS, on March 1, 1983, the Director of Emergency
Services of the City of Santa Monica dld proclaim the existence
of a local emergency within the Clty of Santa Monica~ and
WHEREAS, on March 8, 1983, the City Council adopted
Resol ution Number 6642 (CCS), ratl fying, confirming, and
approvlng, the proclamatlon of local emergency by the Director of
Emergency Services~ and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code Sectlon 8630, the City
Council has rev1ewed the need to continue the local emergency,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The local emergency as proclaimed by the
Dlreetor of Emergency SerVlces on January 27, 1983, shall be
deemed to contlnue to eX1st in the City of Santa Monica untl1 1tS
term1nat10n lS proclalmed by the Cl ty Coune 11 of the City of
Santa Monlca.
SECTION 2. The local emergency as proclalmed by the
Director of Emergency Services on March 1, 1983, shall be deemed
to contin ue to ex 1st ln the Ci ty of Santa Monica unti 1 its
terminat10n 15 proclaimed by the Clty Councl1 of the City of
Santa Monica.

SECTION 3. The Clty Clerk shall certify to the adoptlon of
this Resolut1on, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
