A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROCLAIMING THE
CONTINUED EXISTENCE OF THE LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Munlclpal Code Section 2305 authorizes the
Dlrector of Emergency Services to proclaim the eXlstence or
threatened eXlstence of a local emergency when the City of Santa
Monica is affected or likely to be affected by a public calamity
and the City Council 1S not in session~ and
WHEREAS, commencing on January 27, 1983, conditions of
extreme peril to the safety of persons and property have arlsen
withln the City of Santa Monica caused by storm, high tides, and
heavy surf~ and
WHEREAS, the Clty Counc11 was not in session on January 27,
1983; and
WHEREAS, on January 27, 1983, the Director of Emergency
Services of the City of Santa Monica did proclaim the eXlstence
of a local emergency within the Clty of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1983, the City Council adopted
Resolutlon Number 6621 (CCS), ratifying, confirmlng, and
approving, the proclamation of local emergency by the Director of
Emergency Servlces; and

WHEREAS, commenc~ng on March 1, 1983, conditions of extreme

the City of Santa Monica caused by storm, hlgh tldes, and heavy
surf; and
WHEREAS, the Clty Council was not in seSSlon at the time of
conditlons givlng r1se to the emergency: and
WHEREAS, on March 1, 1983, the Director of Emergency
Serv~ces of the City of Santa Monlca dld proclaim the eXlstence
of a local emergency w1thin the City of Santa Monica: and
WHEREAS, on March 8. 1983, the Clty Council adopted
Resolution Number 6642 (CCS), ratifying, confirming, and
approving, the proclamatlon of local emergency by the Dlrector of
Emergency Services: and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code Seetlon 8630, the Clty
Counell has reviewed the need to contlnue the local emergency,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The local emergency as proelalmed by the
Director of Emergency Services on January 27, 1983, shall be
deemed to continue to eXlst in the City of Santa Monica until its
termlnation is proclalmed by the Cl ty Council of the City of
Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. The local emergency as procla1med by the
D1rector of Emergency Services on March 1, 1983. shall be deemed
to contlnue to exist in the Clty of Santa Monica untl1 its
termlnation is proclaimed by the Cl ty Council of the Ci ty of
Santa Monica.

SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
thlS Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
