A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA t~NICA AUTHORIZING FUEL
EFFICIENT TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
GRANT APPLICATION
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Mon1ca recogn1ze that 1t is 1n the interest
of the national economy to promote the conservat1on of energy resources and to
reduce our nation1s dependence on costly foreign oil; and
WHEREAS, fuel efficlent traffic signal management by the City of Santa
Monlca w1l1 provide benefits to the local commun1ty ln the form of improved
traffic flow, reduced fuel consuption. reduced vehicle operating costs, reduced
alr pollutant em1ssions, and improved safety due to smoother flow; and
WHEREAS, funds have been establ1shed and are available through the
California Energy Commission for grants to local governments for efflcient traffic
slgnal management projects;
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council authorizes the submittal of an applicatlon
to the Californla Energy Commission for a grant for traffic signal management
proJect; and
SECTION 2. The City Manager is authorized and empowered to execute all
necessary appllcations, contracts, and agreements to implement and carry out the
purposes specifled in this Resolution.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certlfy to the adoption of this
Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be 1n full force and effect.
