A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA WAIVING
COMPETITIVE BIDDING FOR DEMOLITION AND
SALVAGE WORK TO RESPOND
TO LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, the Director of Emergency Services on January 27,
1983. proclaimed a local emergency to exist in the City of Santa
Monica; and
WHEREAS, the conditions giving rise to the proclamation of
a local emergency resulted in severe damage to Santa Monica Pieri
and
WHEREAS, the Director of Emergency Services has concluded
that there is an urgent need to enter into a demolition contract
and to either enter into a salvage contract or acquire certain
equipment for city work forces to perform the salvage worki and
WHEREAS, the demolition and salvage work are of urgent
necessity for the preservation of life, health, and propertYi and
WHEREAS, city Charter section 608 and Municipal Code
Sect~on 2508 authorize the waiving of competitive bids for the
reasons set forth in this Resolution,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1.
The City Council of the City of Santa Monica
waives competitive bidding for the demolition work determined
necessary by the Director of Emergency Services in an amount not
to exceed $100,000. The City Manager is authorized to execute
any and all contracts necessary to secure such demOlition.
SECTION 2.
The City Council of the City of Santa Monica
waives competitive bidding for the salvage work determined
necessary by the Director of Emergency Services in an amount not
to exceed $25,000. The City Manager is authorized to execute any
and all contracts necessary to secure such salvage work.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
