A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
ESTABLISHING THE RIGHT OF CLERICAL
EMPLOYEES WHO WOULD SUFFER A REDUCTION
OF PAY THROUGH THE 1983 CLERICAL SERIES
RECLASSIFICATION TO RETAIN THEIR
PRE-EXISTING CLASSIFICATIONS
\VHEREAS, the CIty has Implemented a reclasS1ficatlon of
the clerical series ln order to remove outdated qualifications,
substItute qualIfications that meet the Clty'S needs, improve the
City's market posltion in competlng for clerical workers and
dlgnify the clerical classiflcations through retitling; and
WHEREAS, most individual employees stand to beneflt
financlally from the reclassifications while a few may experience
reductions in pay if extraordinary arrangements are not taken; and
~mEREAS, it is the intention of the City Council that no
tndivldual suffer a reduction in pay due to the reclassification
process;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION
1:
The CIty Council does hereby authorize
individual clerical employees who would suffer a reduction in pay
if they were placed in the approprlate new classificatIon to
retaIn their pre-existIng classiflcation and to enjoy any and all
regular step increases, merlt increases and/or negotiated cost of
living increases which they would otherwlse qualify for until such
tIme as they leave the City serVIce or promote to one of the new
classIfications through regular promotional procedures.
SECTION 2: The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this ResolutIon and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
