A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA WAIVING
COMPETITIVE BIDDING FOR CONSTRUCTION
AND REPAIR WORK ON SANTA MONICA PIER
WHEREAS, the Director of Emergency Serv ices on March I,
1983, proclaImed a local emergency to exist In the City of Santa
Monica; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Emergency Services on January 28,
1983, proclaImed a local emergency to exist ~n the City of Santa
MonIca, WhICh proclamation of emergency continues in full force
and effect; and
WHEREAS, the conditIons gIving rIse to the proclamat1ons of
local emergency caused severe damage to Santa Monica Pier; and
WHEREAS, the D1rector of Emergency SerVIces has concluded
that there 1S an urgent need to enter into a contract for
emergency construction and repalr of Santa Monica Pier; and
WHEREAS, the contruction and repair work is of urgent
necess1ty for the preservation of life, health, and property; and
WHEREAS, City Charter SectIon 608 authorizes the waiving of
cornpet1tive bIds for the reasons set forth in this resolution,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1.
The Cl ty Council of the City of Santa Monica
waives competitIve bidding for emergency construction and repaIr
work determlned necessary by the DIrector of Emergency Services
in an amount not to exceed $35,000.
The City Manager is
authorIzed to execute any and all contracts necessary to secure
such constructIon and repaIr work.
SECTION 2. The CIty Clerk shall certIfy to the adoptIon of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
