A RESOLUTIO~ OF THE CITY COU~CIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA APPROVING A~D AUTHORIZING THE
DIRECTOR OF FINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
TO DESTROY CERTAIN CITY RECORDS UNDER THEIR
CHARGE. PURSUANT TO SECTION 34090 OF THE GOVERN-
MENT CODE OF CALIFOR~IA.
WHEREAS, it has been determIned that certain City records under
the charge of the following CIty Department(s) are no longer re-
quired for publIC or private purposes;
FINANCE
and
WHEREAS, It has been determined that destructIon of the above
mentioned materials is necessary to conserve storage space, and re-
duce staff time, expense and confUSIon in handlIng and informing the
public; and
WHEREAS, Section 34090 of the Government Code of the State of
California authorizes that the CIty official haVIng custody to des-
troy any CIty records and documents which are over two years old
under his or her charge, without making a copy thereof, after the
same IS no longer required, upon the approval of the City CouncIl by
resolution and the written consent of the City Attorney; and
WHEREAS, The City Clerk has been designated as the official
custodian of records in the City of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, it IS therefore desirable to destroy saId records as
listed in ExhibIt "A" attached hereto and made a part hereof, in
storage, WIthout makIng a copy thereof, which are over two years old;
and
WHEREAS, said records have been approved for destruction by the
Department heads and CIty Attorney

NON, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That approval and authorlzation is hereby glven to
destroy those records described as Exhiblt "A" attached hereto and
made a part hereof.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
SECTION 3. The Clty Clerk is authorlzed to allow examination
by and donation to the Santa Monica Historical Society records pending
destruction as descrlbed herein, except those deemed confidentlal
in the opinion of the Clty Attorney of said City.

EXHIBIT "A"
The records listed below are at least five years old and have been
approved for destruction by the City Attorney and by the department
head(s) having custody of the records pursuant to 34090 of the
Cal~fornia Government Code.
Finance
Cancelled Warrants, 1931 to 1969, Bicycle LIcenses 1948 to 1949,
Financ~al Ledgers, 1912 to 1939, correspondence, check reg~ster,
inclusive dates are 1939 to 1940.

of the above records are on file ~n the office of the
