A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA, COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES,
STATE OF CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING APPROVAL
OF A DELETION FROM THE 1995 FUNCTIONAL USAGE
STUDY SYSTE~1.
WHEREAS, Title 23, U.S. Code Section 103(d)2 states that: after
June 30, 1976, the Federal-Aid Urban System shall be located in each urbanized
area and such other urban areas as the State Highway Department may designate
and shall conslst of arterial routes and collector routes, exclusive of urban
extensions of the Federal-Aid Primary System. The routes on the Federal-Aid
Urban System shall be designated by appropriate local officials with the
concurrence of the State Highway Department, subject to the approval of the
Secretary and in the case of urbanized areas shall also be in accordance with
the planning process required pursuant to the provisions of Section 134 of
thi s Tit1 e; and
WHEREAS, the 1973 Federal-Aid Highway Act Section 148D states that
Federal-Aid systems realignment shall be based upon anticipated functional
usage in the year 1995 or a planned connected system; and
WHEREAS, the 1995 Functional Usage Study will serve as the basis
for determining eligibility for Federal-Aid Systems and has served as the basis
for requestlng streets to be on the Federal-Aid Urban System; and
WHEREAS, the approval of the 1995 Functional Usage Study will not
preclude future adjustments of street classificatlons due to changing popu-
lation, travel, and land use; and
WHEREAS, the Functional Usage Study Map is consistent with the

1995 Functlonal Usage Systems of contiguous jurlsdictions and is satisfactory
to the Callfornia Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS! streets shown on the approved 1995 Functional Usage Study
or proposed amendments thereto! as arterials or collectors, are eligible for
incluslon ln the FAU System of Highways; and
WHEREAS! the streets lndicated with shaded lines on the attached
map are shown on the 1995 Functlonal Usage Study and are classlfied as mlnor
arterials; and
WHEREAS! these streets have been designated as Federal-Aid Urban
Routes,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That this Council will request approval to delete the
streets indicated wlth shaded lines on the attached map, now designated as
minor arterials or collectors, from the 1995 Functional Usage Study System
as forwarded by the City to the Californla Department of Transportation.
SECTION 2. The Clty Clerk shall certlfy to the adoption of thlS
resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter, the same shall be in full force
and effect.
