A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA IN OPPOSITION
TO UNITED STATES AND OTHER FOREIGN
INTERVENTION IN EL SALVADOR
WHEREAS, terrorism, violence, and other human rights
violations are commonplace in El Salvador~ and
WHEREAS, Archbishop Oscar Arnu1fo-Romero was gunned
down during religious services and other clergy have been
murdered or have disappeared; and
WHEREAS, the Human Rights Commission of the Archdiocese
of San Salvador has documented thousands of assassinations
comm~tted directly by the Salvadorian Armed Forces and by
paramilitary groups supported by the Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, the un~ted States has supplied and continues
to supply military advisors and military aid to the govern-
ment of E1 Salvador; and
WHEREAS, the aid of the United States is being used for
acts of terriorism and violence against the people of El
Salvador; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Joint Resolution Number 26 introduced
by Assemblyman Mel Levine urges the termination of United

States military aid to El Salvador,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That all fore~gn ~ntervent~on in EI
Salvador immed~ately cease and that the people of El Salvador
be given the right of self-governance through democratic
elections to be held pursuant to a negotiated peace settle-
ment.
SECTION 2. That the President and Congress of the
United States immediately stop all military aid to El
Salvador, including military advisors.
SECTION 3. That the government of El Salvador end all
human rights violations.
SECTION 4. That the C~ty Council of the City of Santa
Monica urges the California Legislature to adopt Assembly
Joint Resolution Number 26.
SECTION 5. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter
the same shall be in full force and effect.
