A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA IN OPPOSITION
TO THE DEPORTATION OF
EL SALVADORIAN NATIONALS
WHEREAS, terror1sm, violence, and other human rights
violations are commonplace in El Salvador; and
WHEREAS, because of the terrorism, violence and other
human rights v1olations many persons have fled El Salvador,
sought refuge 1n the un1ted States, and some of them in Santa
Monica; and
WHEREAS, the Un1ted States Government has indicated
that El Salvadorian refugees w1l1 be deported to El Salvador,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Santa
Monica is opposed to the summary deportation of El Salvador-
ian refugees and urges the United States Government to grant
asylum to El Salvador1an refugees and to grant these refugees
a fa~r hearing prior to any deportat1on action.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter
the same shall be in full force and effect.
