A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
ESTABLISHING A TASK FORCE ON THE ARTS.
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica is home to numerous
persons involved in the creation of works of art; and
WHEREAS, the entire community would benefit from the
increased promotion of the arts within the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires that a task force of
citlzens with various perspectives on the arts study the
question of the City's role in promoting the creation of works
of art within the City,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
SECTION 1. A Task Force on the Arts 1S hereby created
in the City of Santa Monica.

SECTION 2. The Task Force shall consist of no less than
7 and no more than 15 persons who reside or work in the Clty,
and who shall be appointed by the CIty Council. The Task Force
shall include artists of varIOUS art forms, and should include
patrons of the arts, art merchants, consumers of art, and
representatives from communlty organizations which are interested
in community arts programs.

SECTION 3. The Task Force shall examine the need and
desirability of establ1shing a C1ty Commission on the Arts,
the responsibil1ties and composition of an Arts Commission, the
nature of City staff involvement, and the scope of City budgetary
commitment and alternat1ve revenue sources to fund a municipal
arts program.
SECTION 4. The Task Force shall complete its work
no later than January 1, 1982.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall attest to the adoption of
this Resolution and thereafter lt shall be 1n full force and
effect.
