A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA PROCLAIMING APRIL 18 THROUGH APRIL 24 TO BE
PRIVATE PROPERTY WEEK
WHEREAS, the residents of Santa Monica and their fellow
Amerlcans are blessed wlth a legacy of rights and freedoms unknown to
most other persons of this world, and
WHEREAS, high1y valued among these freedoms is the freedom
to own and possess private property, and
WHEREAS, for many Santa Monlcans and many Americans the most
signlficant meanlng of this freedom is the freedom to own their own home
and to assure themselves that the1r home 1S inv10lable and free from un-
warranted obstac1es to its ful1 enjoyment, and
WHEREAS, for some Santa Monicans and for many Americans the
mean1ng of this freedom is the opportun1ty to 1nvest 1n, to own and possess
private property for the purpose of accrulng monetary benefit, and
WHEREAS, such activities, as wlth all activlties having a
bearing upon the genera1 hea1th and wel1 being of others, must operate
withln reasonable constraints so as to assure that the general health and
well being of others is not compromlsed, and
WHEREAS, The Santa Monica Board of Realtors encourages and
facilltates the purchase of homes within our city aiding many in taklng
advantage of the freedOM to own one's own home~ and

WHEREAS, the Santa Monlca Board of Realtors faCl1itates others
in taking advantage of the freedom to invest in real property and provides
such persons with information as to the appropriate constralnts upon their
use of that property as reflected 1n state and municlpal law.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The week of April 18 through April 24 15 proclalmed
to be PRIVATE OWNERSHIP OF PROPERTY WEEK.
SECTION 2. That we will do all that is in our power to help our
citlzens achieve the goal of home ownership so long as the securlty and in-
terests of the renters of this community are not jeopardized; that this city
wlll work to implement federal, state and local housing programs toward this
goal; and that this City will work with the private sector to ensure an
increase in both lndividual and cooperative home ownership opportunities in
Santa Mom Cd.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certlfy to the adoption
of this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same ~hall be in full
force and effect.
