A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA URGING
AN END TO OPERATION JOBS
WHEREAS, the Immigration and Naturalization Service has
recently undertaken a program commonly known as "Operation
Jobs"; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of Operation Jobs is to raid work
places throughout the country looking for undocumented
workers; and
WHEREAS, Operation Jobs has been primarily directed to
the Hispanic community; and
WHEREAS, Operation Jobs has resulted in the arrest and
deportation of thousands of Hispanic workers; and
WHEREAS, many persons arrested have been either United
States citizens or persons lawfully in the United States; and
WHEREAS, many persons deported have been deprived of
rights guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United
States; and
WHEREAS, Operation Jobs attempts to divert public
attention away from the real causes of unemployment and con-
vince the public that unemployment of citizens is caused by

the employment of undocumented workersj and
WHEREAS, undocumented workers contribute ~ore than
their fair share of taxes and receive less than than their
fair share of government serVlCeSj and
WHEREAS, Operatlon Jobs is a politically-motivated cam-
paign dlrected agalnst an already exploited group in this
country,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Santa
Monica calls upon the President of the United States to
immediatley and permanently end Operatlon Jobs.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adop-
tion of this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
