A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA URGING
LOCAL SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE
INFORMATION CONCERNING MILITARY SERVICE
WHEREAS, the United States has recently reintroduced
draft registration; and
WHEREAS, the Armed Forces of the United States
actively recruit students from Santa Monica High School and
Santa Monica College; and
WHEREAS, the ability of draft age youth to make inform-
ed choices regarding Selective Service Law and enlistment in
the Armed Forces depends on the presentation of information
in a fair and balanced manner; and
WHEREAS, Santa Monica High School and Santa Monica
College make time and facilities available to military
recruiters on campus; and
WHEREAS, students of Santa Monica High School and Santa
Monica College have requested that the City Council urge
Santa Monica High School and Santa Monica College to make
time and facil1ties available for alternative sources of in-
formation regarding enlistment, alternative service, regis-
tration, and the draft,

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Santa
Monica calls upon the Board of Education of the Santa Monica-
Malibu Unified School Dlstrict and the Board of Trustees of
Santa Monica College to establish and implement a policy of
providing information and counseling to students regarding
enlistment, alternative service, registration, and the draft
from sources other than military recruiters or other
officials of the United States.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adop-
tion of this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
