RESOLUTION NO. 6492(CC5)
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA IN SUPPORT OF TITLE 24
RESIDENTIAL BUILDING STANDARDS
WHEREASt the conservation of energy is more cost-effective
and more environmentally sound than the generation of new sources
of energy; and
WHEREASt it is for the good of the public that California's
dependence on nonrenewable resources be reduced; and
WHEREAS, the use of the solar and conservation building
techniques
defined
in
the State of California's adopted
Residential Building Standards can reduce the heating and cooling
demand of a residence at relatively little added costt saving
substantial cost to the homeowner over the life of the home; and
WHEREAS~ the use of energy conserving building techniques
and solar technologies create new jobs and maintain money in the

WHEREAS, a study by Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories showed
that California households use more energy per heating degree day
than households of any of the other forty-seven states for which
the calculations were made;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the Council of the City of Santa Monica
recommends that the State Legislature not delay the July 1982
implementation of the Residential Building Standards adopted by
the California Energy Commission and the California Building
Standards Commission.
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be forwarded to
members of the California State Legislature.
SECTION 3.
That the City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
