A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DECLARINC
THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 12, 1981, AS
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS ~VEEK
WHEREAS, violent acts inflicted upon spouses or children
cause trag1c damage to families and their members; and
WHEREAS, the incidence rate of domestic violence 1S
increasing, causing severe damage to the public health and
welfare throughout the country and in Southern Californiai and
WHEREAS, the problem can be abated only if the pub11c is
aware of the causes and manifestations of family-directed violence,
and if resources are available to permit enforcement of the law
and treatment of families subject to vlolence,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
SECTION 1. The week of October 12, 1981, 15 declared to be
Domestic Violence Awareness Week in the City of Santa Monica. All
citizens are urged to be aware of the problem that domestic violence
poses in our society and of the damage it causes to familles, adults,
and chl1dren.

SECTION 2. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the adoption of this Resolution and thereafter it shall
be in full force and effect.
