RESOLUTION NO 6402

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA ENDORSING
JOB - SHARING IN THE CITY SERVICE
WHEREAS, changing socia-economic conditions and demographic
patterns have increased the number of women with dependent children
and older workers in the labor force, and
WHEREAS, valued City employees have, from time to time, found
it necessary to adjust their work schedules to return to school or
to raise a family, and
WHEREAS, such individuals can make a valuable contribution to
the City service as career employees if their schedules can be accom-
odated,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS.
SECTION I The City Council does hereby endorse the concept
of job-sharing to encourage the participation of half-time workers
in the City service.
SECTION 2. The City Council does hereby designate the Personnel
Department as a clearinghouse where individuals interested in job-
sharing can be matched with positions suited for job-sharing.
SECTION 3: The City Council does hereby authorize payment of
medical/dental insurance on behalf of job-sharing employees equal to
that which would be provided if their position were filled on a full
t1.me basis.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full
force and effect.
