A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROVIDING FOR
REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES OF MEMBERS OF
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica has created various
Boards and Commissions by its charter and ordinances: and
WHEREAS, the C~ty Council of the City of Santa Monica
appoints citizens to serve on the Boards and Commissions; and
WHEREAS, Section 1005 of the C~ty Charter provides that
members of Boards and Commissions "shall serve without com-
pensation for their services as such"; and
WHEREAS, Counc~lmembers serve without compensation but
do receive the amount of $ 50.00 per month as reimbursement
for expenses: and
WHEREAS, the C~ty Council of the City of Santa Monica
finds that members of Boards and Commissions, like Council-
members, incur expenses for child care, telephone, travel,
and stationery, among other things, in connection with the~r
pub11c service to the c~ty of Santa Monica: and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Monica
finds that it is an economic hardship for many members of
Boards and Commissions to incur their own expenses related to

the performance of their public dutLes; and
WHEREAS, the city Council of the City of Santa Monica
finds that reimbursing members of Boards and Commissions for
the expenses ~ncurred in the performance of their public
duties wlll encourage participation on Boards and Commissions
by all econom1C segments of the community; and
WHEREAS, the City council of the CLty of Santa Monica
finds that a voucher system for reimbursement of expenses
would result in unnecessary administrative costs,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That members of Boards and Comm1ssions
created by the Clty Charter or by ordinance shall be re2m-
bursed for expenses in the amount of $ 25.00 per meetlng not
to exceed the amount of $ 50.00 per month.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certLfy to the
adoption of this ResolutLon, and thenceforth and thereafter
the same shall be in full force and effect.
