A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA APPROVING JOINT PARTICIPATION WITH THE SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN ENERGY
RECOVERY PLANT
WHEREAS, the development of alternat1ve energy resources is a national
goal, and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Energy has funds available for
the construction of such energy recovery plants; and

WHEREAS, the Southern Cal1forn1a Ed1son Company deslres to construct and
operate such a plant, with the ass1stance of the Department of Energy, 1n Santa Mon1ca
and is agreeable to sharing with the City of Santa Monica the profits of the plant; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica des1res to cooperate to the extent that it
15 economically feasible, by allowing the use of its land and to provide refuse for
such a plant.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA HEREBY RESOLVES:
SECTION 1. The Concept of an energy recovery plant using approximately
2~ acres of the Clty Yard as a site is hereby approved, 1t be1ng understood that the
Southern California Ed1son Company is to des1gn, build, and operate such plant, and
to share in the proflts w1th the City of Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. Be it further resolved that 1f such a Federal Grant be approved,
the City Manager is authorized to negotiate the instruments required to effectuate the
project.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution.
