CLARIFYING SECTION 602 OF THE
CITY CHARTER BY ESTABLISHING A
POLICY REGARDI~G TRAVEL BY COUNCIL

WHEREAS, Section 602 of the Clty Charter of the City
of Santa Monlca provldes that meMbers of the Clty Counell
shall recelve reimbursement for necessary travel and
other expenses when on official duty out of the ~itv on
order of the City Council, and
~VHEREAS, the Clty Council deslres to establlsh a
POllCY ln furtherance of thlS Sectlon:

~ESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTIO~ 1. Councll Members are hereby authorlzed to
attend conferences, conventlons, meetings, educatlonal seminars
and other events sponsored by ~hose organlzatlons in whlch the
City holds membership. Exa~ples of such organi7.atlons are
Natlonal League of ~ities, National Confere~ce of Mayors,
California League of Cities, Southern Callfornla AssOClation
of Governments. All other travel by Council ~eMbers shall be
approved at a duly not1ced Council "leetlng, by a slmple maJority
of the members in attendance.
SECTION 2. Councll >'1embers are anthorlzed to draw funds
1n advance of travel to pay for all reasonable and necessary
expenses including lodglng and meals. All funds drawn in advance
