A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY C0U11CIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
GRANTING A LICENSE TO THE STATE
OF CALIFORNIA TO OPERATE A
WATER TAXI SERVICE DOCKING AT
THE SANTA MONICA PIER IN THE EVENT
OF A DECLARED EHERGENCY.
WHEREAS, State Route 1 ~n the Mal1bu area of the
County of Los Angeles, was closed to thru traffic on
Apr~l 19, 1979, due to severe land slides and other hazards
to the pUblic; and
WHEREAS, the State of Californ~a contracted w~th
the City of Santa Hon~ca for the ~mplementat~on of a water
tax~ serv~ce between Malibu and the C~ty of Santa Mon~ca,
docking at the Santa Mon~ca pler; and
WHEREAS, such service ended on June 8, 1979; and
WHEREAS, ~t is desirable to provide for the imple~entat~on
of such water taxi serv~ce ~n the event that State Route
1 is again closed to traffic as a result of a declared
emergency; and
WHEREAS, it ~s the intent of the Clty Counell to
grant a llcense to the State that specif~es the amount
of compensation, indemnif~cat~on, and methods of operation
arlsing from the lmplementatlon of the said water tax~
serVl.ce:

SECTION 1. The C~ty Manager lS authorized to execute, on
behalf of the City, a certa~n llcense for the use of property,
attached to this Resolut~on as Exhibl t IIAII, by \V'hich the
City of Santa Mon~ca, ~n conslderatlon of the stated mutual
covenants, l~censes the State t~ operate a water taxi
serv~ce docklng at the Santa Monica pier.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certlfy to the
adoption of thlS resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter
the same shall be in full force and effect.
