A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA j\10NICA RECOGUIZING
AND COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC
SERVICE GIVEN BY PIETER C. VAN DEN
STEENHOVEN, EXPRESSING A SENSE OF DEEP
LOSS CAUSED BY HIS UNTI}lliLY DEATH, AND
EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY
WHEREAS, pieter C. van den Steenhoven was elected to
the Santa Monica C1ty Councll on April 10, 1973 recelvlng
11,399 votes from hiS fellow cltizens (the hlghest total in
Santa Monlca hlstory)~ and
WHEREAS, Pieter C. van den Steenhoven was born ln
Santa Monica, was a llfelong resldent of Santa Monica, and
loved hlS City deeply~ and
WHEREAS, Pleter C. van den Steenhoven was a distinguished
graduate of Dartmouth College and held a Master's Degree in
Urban Plannlng froQ the UniverSity of Cal1fornla at Berkeley~ and
WHEREAS, Pleter C. van den Steenhoven gave dlstlngulshed
serVlce to hiS country as a flghter pllot in the Unlted States
Navy ~ and
WHEREAS, Pleter C. van den Steenhoven gave tirelessly
of hiS personal time and effort to work to better his COffiQUnlty,
to 1mprove the quality of life for hiS fellow citizens, to ensure
the preservation of the Santa Monica Pier and the Bay, and to
improve housing opportunltles for those cltlzens less fortunate
than the maJorlty~ and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that we extend our deepest
sympathy to the parents and faMily of P~eter C. van den Steenhoven
in this their time of great sorrow.
The City Clerk shall cert~fy to the adoption of this
resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in
full force and effect.
