A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO CONSTRUCT STREET LIGHTING AND
APPURTENANT WORK ON SUNSET AVENUE BETWEEN SEVENTEENTH STREET
AND OEWEY STREET~ ALL WITHIN THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA~ AND
DETERMINING THAT BONDS SHALL BE ISSUED TO REPRESENT THE COST
THEREFOR AND DECLARING THE WORK TO BE OF MORE THAN LOCAL OR
ORDINARY PUBLIC BENEFIT AND THAT ONE-HALF THE EXPENSE
THEREOF SHALL BE ASSESSED UPON A DISTRICT.
WHEREAS~ the C1ty Council of the Clty of Santa Mon1ca by
Resolution No. 6098 (City Council Ser1es), adopted October 14, 1980, set a
hearlng pursuant to Section 19 of Article XVI of the Constltut1on of the
State of California for November 11,1980 to determine whether or not the
public conven1ence and necess1ty requ1re the 1mprovement of construct1on of
street lighting and appurtenant work on Sunset Avenue between Seventeenth Street
and Dewey Street, all w1th1n the City of Santa Monica.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the public 1nterest and convenience requ1re and
it is the intent10n of the C1ty Counc1l of the City of Santa Mon1ca to order the
follow1ng work to be done, to W1t:
The constructlon of street lighting and appurtenant work on
Sunset Avenue between Seventeenth Street, all ln the Clty of
Santa Monica.
The est1mated cost of the 1mprovement lS ~34,OOO.OO.
SECTION 2. That sald proposed work or lmprovement 1n the op1nion of
the Clty Council of the C1ty of Santa Mon1ca is or more than local or ordinary

publ1C benef1t, and said Council hereby proposes that the d1strict in the
City of Santa Monica to be benef1ted by sa1d work or improvement and to be
assessed to pay one-half of the cost and expense thereof, is shown upon a
certa1n map 1ndicat1ng the exterior boundary thereof, which sa,d Map 15
on file in the off1ce of the C,ty Engineer.
Said map hereby is referred to and shall govern for all deta11s as
to the extent of sald assessment dlstrict. Said assessment distr1ct includes
1n general the lots and parcels of land abutt1ng upon or contiguous to Sunset
Avenue between Seventeenth Street and Dewey Street, all with1n the City of
Santa Mon1ca, but reference hereby is made to said plan or map for all details
as to the extent of said assessment distr1ct and for any var1at1on between the
last mentioned general descript10n and the extent of said assessment distr1ct
as shown on said map. All public streets or alleys, or portions thereof, hereby
are excepted from sald dlstr;ct.
SECTION 3. The C1ty will pay one-half of the cost and expenses
of the work descr1bed herein, and the City Controller 1S authorized and directed
to pay the same immediately upon confinmation of the assessment by the City
Council.
SECTION 4. That ser1al bonds bearing 1nterest at the rate of 7%
per annum shall be issued to represent each assessment of $50.00 or more
remaining unpaid for 30 days after the recording of the warrant. Sa1d serial
bonds shall extend over a period ending nine years from the second day of
January next succeeding the next September 1st fo11owlng their date.
Payments on the principal of unpa1d assessments and interest shall be made by
property owners to the C1ty Treasurer and the same shall be d1sbursed by him
or as provided 1n the Improvement Act of 1911" hereinafter referred to.

SECTION 5. Not1ce hereby is given that on the 11th day of
November, 1980, at the hour of 7:30 p.m. 1n the Council Chambers in the City
Hall of said City of Santa Monica, situated at 1685 Main Street 1n sa1d City,
any and all persons having any obJections to the proposed work or improvement
may appear before the Clty Council and show cause why the said proposed work
or improvement should not be carr1ed out in accordance with said Resolution of
Intent1on.
SECTION 6. The Super1ntendent of Streets immediately shall cause
to be conspicuously posted along the line of said contemplated work or
improvement and also along all the open streets with1n the siad distrlct, notice
of the passage of this Resolution of Intention 1n the manner and form prescribed
by 1 a\oJ.
The City Clerk hereby 1S directed to mail notlces, 1n the manner
and form prescribed by law, of the adoption of this resolut1on to all persons
ownlng real property in the hereinbefore described assessment district, whose
names and addresses appear on the last equalized assessment roll for the C1ty
taxes or as known as the City Clerk.
SECTION 7. The City Council of the City of Santa Monica, 1n making
the improvement in doing the work prescribed herein elects to proceed under
and in accordance with the provlsions of the IIImprovement Act of 1911.11 being
Div1sion 7 of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of Cal1fornia.
SECTION 8. The c1ty Clerk shall certify to the adoption of th1S
Res01ution of Intention and shall cause the same to be published tW1ce in the
evening outlook, a newspaper published and c1rculated in the C1ty of Santa
Mon1ca, the first of which publlcation shall be not less than 10 days prlor to

SECTION 9. The C1ty Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolut1on and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force
and effect.
