RESOLUTION NO. 5249(CCS)
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA URGING STATE LEGISLATION TO INSURE THE EARLY
CONSTRUCTION OF THE PERIPHERAL CANAL PORTION OF THE
STATE WATER PROJECT
WHEREAS! the water needs of the City of Santa Monica require
importation of water through the State Water Project in accordance wlth
existing State contractual commitments with The Metropolitan Water District
of Southern California; and
WHEREAS! the Peripheral Canal portion of the State Water Project
is a vital element needed to utilize that project to its fullest intended
potential; and
WHEREAS! the Peripheral Canal is a segment of the State Water
Project which is essential to fulfilling the entitlement of water from the
Project to Southern California; and
WHEREASt the early completion of the Peripheral Canal is vital to
the best interest of the City of Santa Monica as well as other Southern
California communities.
NOW! THEREFORE! THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA r~NICA DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOllOWS:
SECTION 1. That the State Legislature be urged to pass legislation
assuring the early construction of the Peripheral Canal.
SECTION 2. That this resolution be distributed among the legislators.
SECTION 3. That this City Council and City Staff are supportive of
and will cooperate with other communities and entlties in their efforts toward
early construction of the Peripheral Canal.

SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force
and effect.
