RESOLUTION NO. 5098
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA DESIGNATING A CERTAIN
AREA AN UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT, AND
DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO REMOVE POLES,
OVERHEAD WIRES, AND ASSOCIATED OVERHEAD
STRUCTURES THEREFROM, AND DECLARING ITS
INTENTION TO UNDERGROUND WIRES AND FACILI-
TIES FOR SUPPLYING ELECTRIC, COMMUNICATION,
AND SIMILAR OR ASSOCIATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, the C~ty Council on June 25, 1968, a~d adopt
Ordinance No. 773 (City Council Series), adding Chapter 9 to
Article VII of the Santa

Municiual Code, which chapter
is titled as follows:
"CHAPTER 9 - REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES RE OVERHEAD A~D
UNDERGROUND UTILITY FACILITIES,!! and
WHE~EAS, the City Council des~res to des~gnate Colorado
Avenue from L~ncoln Boulevard to Yale Street an Underground Ut~l~ty
D~strict; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Mon~ca
hereby finds that such undergrounding is in the general public
interest for the follow~ng reasons:
1. Such Undergrounding will el~m~nate an unusually heavy
concentration of overhead distr~bution facilit~es;
2. Said street ~s extensively used by the general public
and carries a heavy volume of veh~cular traffic; and
3. Said street passes through an area which would benef~t
from the aesthetic improvement result~ng from such
undergrounding; and

WHEREAS, the Southern California Edlson Company and the
General Telephone Company desire to accomplish the under grounding of
this line by December l~ 1983.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
That said City Council proposes to initiate
proceedings for the establlshment of an Underg~ound Utillty District
embraclng Colorado Avenue from Lincoln Boulevard to Yale Street,
together with property abuttlng sald Colorado Avenue within said
limlts.
SEC~ION 2. That notice hereby is given that on Tuesday, the
24th day of October, 1978, at 7:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers
located in the City Hall, 1685 Main Street, Santa Monica, California,
there shall be a public hearing before said City Council for the
purpose of determining whether the ~ublic necessity, health,
safety or welfare requires the above descriced improvement.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall give notice of the hearing
by posting a copy of this resolution on the Council Chamber door and
by notifying all affected property owners as shown on the last
equallzed assessment roll and utllities concerned by mail of the
time and place of such hearing at least ten (IO) days prior to the
date thereof.
SECTION 4.
That the City Clerk hereby is directed to publish
thls resolution In the Evening Outlook on two successive dates, the
first publlcatlon to be made not less than ten (10) days prior to the
date of the above publlc hearing.

SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of thLs resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same
shall be in full force and effect.
