A RESOLUTION OF lHE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA SUPPORTING ADOPTION
OF CALIFORNIA STATE ASSEMBLY SILL 1844
TO AMEND CERTAIN SECTIONS OF THE CALIFORNIA
PENAL CODE PERTAINING TO THE CALIFORNIA
COMMUNITY CRIME RESISTANCE PROGRAM
WHEREAS, on March 7, 1985, State Assembly Member Thomas
Hayden Introduced A!!!Iaembly 8111 No. 1844 which would amend
various sections of the California State Penal Code pertaining
to the Ca 11 for n I a Community Crime Resistance Progrem
(" Prog ram" ) ; and
WHEREAS, such Assembly 8111 (as amended In Legislative
session) would guarantee continued funding of said Program,
Increase the maXimum annuel grant awards a va I 1 a b Ie, and
restrict the use of funds granted to a speCified 115 t of
actiVities; and
WHEREAS, the CI ty of Santa Monica IS a potential
applicant for and reCipient of funding prOVided by such
Program,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The amendments to the California Penal Code
propoaed by said As~embIy 8111 No. 1844 would benefit City end

county governments by a~surlng contInued funding of the
Community CrIme ResIstance Program and provIding Increa$ed
annual grant ,!Jw,!Jrd~ for purp05e~ of ImplementIng the goals of
saId Program. AddItionally the ~cope of use~ WhICh qualIfy
for thIS fundIng would be redrawn.
SECTION 2. The City CouncIl of Santa MonIca &upports
the eXIsting CalIfornIa Commun 1 t Y Cr 1 me ReSlstence Program !IS
a means of a~5urIng greater health, ~afety and secur 1 ty for
the CItIzens of Santa Monica. The Cl ty CouncIl hereby
offICIally endor5es Assembly 81 11 No. 1844 as necessary
legIslation to aS5ure the continuing eXIstence and adequate
fundIng of thll!. valuable Program whIch actively seeks to
prevent crime and I mp rove the qua 11 t Y of 11 fe In CalIfornIa
communities.
SECTION J. The Cl ty Clerk sha 11 certIfy to the adoptIon
of thu. Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same
shall be In full force and effect.
