RESOLUTION NO. 7119 (CCS)
( CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING,
DESIGNATING THE CERTAIN AREA BOUNDED BY SUNSET
AVENUE, MARINE STREET, 17TH STREET AND PAULA
DRIVE AS AN UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT,
ORDERING THE REMOVAL OF POLES, OVERHEAD WIRES,
AND ASSOCIATED OVERHEAD STRUCTURES THEREFROM,
AND ORDERING THE UNDERGROUND INSTALLATION OF
WIRES AND FACILITIES FOR SUPPLYING ELECTRIC,
AND SIMILAR OR ASSOCIATED SERVICES.
WHEREAS, the City Council on June 25, 1968, did adopt
Ordinance No. 773 ( Ci t Y Council Se r i e s ) , adding Chapter 9 to
Article VII of the Santa Monica Municl.pal Code, establishing
regulatIons and procedures for overhead and underground utilities ~
facilItIes; and
WHEREAS, the Cl.ty Counc1-l, on February 11, 1969 hd
adopt an approved utl.lity under grounding program; and
WHEREAS, the City CounC1-l desires to designate the area
bounded by Sunset Avenue - Marine Street - 1 7t h Street - and
Paula Drive an Underground Ut i lit Y District; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City 0 f Santa Monica

hereby fi nds that such undergroundlng is in the general public
interest for the following reasons:
1 . Such undergrounding will eliminate an unusually
heavy concentration of overhead distribution
facilities;

2. Sa1d street passes through an area which would
benef1t from the aesthetic improvement res ul t ing from
such undergrounding.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1- That said City Counc1l proposes to initiate
proceed1ngs for the establishment of an Underground Ut i11 t Y
District bounded by Sunset Avenue - Marine Street - 1 7t h Street -
and Paula Drive, all within the City of Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. That notice hereby is given that on
Tue sday, December 10, 1985 in the Council Chambers located in the
City Hall, l685 Main Street, Santa Monica, California, there
shall be a public hearing before said City Council for the
purpose of determining whether the public necessity, health,
safety or welfare r e q ui res the above described 1mprovement.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall give notice of
the hearing by posting a copy of this resolution on the Council
Chamber door and by not1fying all affected property owners as
shown on the last equalized assessment roll and ut11l.ties
concerned by mail of the time and place of such hearing at least
ten (10) days prl.or to the date thereof.
SECTION 4. That the Cl. ty Clerk hereby is directed to
publ1sh this resolution in the Evenl.ng Outlook on two successive
dates, the fi r s t publication to be made not less than ten (10)
days prior to the date of the above public hearing.

SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this Resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
