A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA FINDING THE PUBLIC
N E C E S S I L'Y , HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE
REQUIRE:' , WITHIN A CERTAIN DESIGNATED
AREA, Tt1E UNDE RG RO UND INSTALLATION OF
WIRES ANI; FACILITIES SUPPLY I NG ELECTRIC
SERV ICES, AND DESIGNATING SUCH CERTAIN
AREA AN uNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT AND
ORDERING THE REMOVAL OF POLES, OVERHEAD
WIRES AND ASSOCIATED OV E RHEAD STRUCTURES
WITHIN SUCH DISTRICT AND THE UNDERGROUND
INSTALLATION OF SUCH WIRES AND FACILITIES.
WHEREAS, a public hearing has been duly and regulary
held pursuant to Re sol uti 0 n No. 7119 (City Council Ser1es), on
the proposed improvement of 16t h Street from Sunset Avenue to
Marine Street, and on Marine Street from 1 7t h Street to Paula
Dr1ve by undergroundlng utilities and appurtenant work thereto as
described in Resolution No. 7119 (C.C.S.); and
WHEREAS, said l.mprovement has been considered full y;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOW S :
SECTION 1 . The C1 ty Council hereby finds the public
necessity, health, safety and welfare requires the above
described improvement In such designated area.
SECTION 2. The Ci ty Council hereby finds such
undergrounding 1S Ln the general publLc interest for the
following reasons:
A. Such undergrounding will elIminate an unusually
heavy concentration of overhead distr1butlon facilities; and
B. The strt!et or road or rights - of - way ad] Ol.ns or
passes t hro ugh a civic area or public recreation area or an area

SECTION 3. The area on 16th Street from Sunset Avenue
to Marine Street. and Marine Street from 1 7t h Street to Paula
Dr i 'Ie is hereby declared to be an underground utility district as
provided by the Santa Monica Municipal Code.
SECTION 4. The City Council hereby orders the removal
of all poles, overhead wires and associated overhead structures
from within the designated underground utIlity district and the
underground installation therein of all wires and facilities
requIred for supplying electric serV1ce.
SECTION 5. Upon the effective date of this
resolution, the Ci ty Clerk is directed to forthwith comply w~th
the provisions of Section 7906 of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code.
SECTION 6. The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this Resol.ution and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
