A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROCLAIMING THE
CONTINUED EXISTENCE OF THE LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Municipal Code Sectlon 2305 authorizes the
DIrector of Emergency SerVIces to proclaIm the eXlstence or
threatened existence of a local emergency when the City of Santa
MOnIca lS affected or lIkely to be affected by a public calamity
and the CIty Council is not ln seSSIon; and
WHEREAS, commencing on January 27, 1983, conditIons of
extreme peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen
withIn the CIty of Santa Monlca caused by storm, hlgh tldes, and
heavy surf; and
WHEREAS, the City Councll was not In seSSlon on January 27,
1983; and
WHEREAS, on January 27, 1983, the Dlrector of Emergency
Services of the City of Santa Monica dId proclaim the eXIstence
of a local emergency w1thIn the CIty of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1983, the Clty CounCIl adopted
ResolutIon Number 6621 ( CCS ) , ratlfYlng, conflrming, and
approving, the proclamation of local emergency by the Director of
Emergency Services; and

WHEREAS, commenclng on Harch 1, 1983, condItions of extreme
perLl to the safety of persons and property have arisen within
the City of Santa HonLca caused by storm, hIgh tides, and heavy
surf; and
WHEREAS, the Clty Council was not J.n seSS1Dn at the time of
condltlons gIving rise to the emergency; and
WHEREAS, on Harch 1, 1983, the Director of Emergency
Servlces of the Clty of Santa Monlca dld proclaim the eXlstence
of a local emergency wlthln the CIty of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, on March 8, 1983, the Clty CouncLl adopted
Resolution Number 6642 ( CCS ) , ratlfYlng, confirmlng, and
approving, the proclamation of local emergency by the DJ.rector of
Emergency Services; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code Seetlon 8630, the City
CouncLl has reVIewed the need to contInue the local emergency,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNC IL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS;
SECTION 1. The local emergency as proclalIDed by the
DJ.rector of Emergency Servlces on January 27, 1983, shall be
deemed to contlnue to eXlst in the CLty of Santa HonLca unt1.1 its
terminatLon LS proclaLmed by the CLty Council of the City of
Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. The local emergency as proclalmed by the
DLrector of Emergency ServLces on March 1, 1983, shall be deemed
to contLnue to exist 1.n the CIty of Santa Monica until Its
term1.natLon J.s proclaImed by the CIty Council of the C1.ty of
Santa Monlca.

SECTION 3. The C~ty Clerk shall certify to the adopt~on of
thlS Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
ln full force and effect.
