A RESOLUTION OF APPLICATION
BY THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
REQUESTING THE LOCAL AGENCY
FORMATION COMMISSION TO TAKE
PROCEEDINGS FOR THE ANNEXATION
TO THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA AND
DETACHMENT FROM THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES
OF A 34-ACRE PARCEL LOCATED IN THE NORTHEAST
CORNER OF SANTA MONICA AIRPORT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
WHEREAS, the C1ty of Santa Monlca desires to in1t1ate
proceedings pursuant to
the Cor tese-Knox Local Government
Reorganizat1on Act of 1985, Division 3, commencing with Section
56000 of the Californ1a Government Code, for the annexation to
the Cl ty of Santa Monica and detachment from the City of Los
Angeles of a 34-acre parcel located In the northeast corner of
Santa Mon1ca A1rport; and
WHEREAS,
the terr i tory proposed
to be annexed

un1nhab1ted, and a descrIptIon of the boundaries of t~e territory
is set forth in Exh1b1t A attached hereto and by th10 reference
incorporated here1n; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica, as landowner in fee of
th1S terr1tory, does hereby consent to th1S proposal; and

WHEREAS, thIS proposal IS consistent with the sphere of
Influence of the affected cIty; and
WHEREAS, It IS desired to provide that the proposed
annexation be subject to the following terms and condItions:
None; and
WHEREAS, the reasons for thIS proposed annexatIon are as
follows:
(1) The Santa MonIca Aiport is a munICIpal enterprIse
owned and operated by the CIty of Santa Monica. All
but 34 acres of the 2lS-acre AIrport are located
within the boundarIes of the CIty of Santa Monica.
The City of Santa MonIca belIeves It 15 both expedient
and rational for a CIty-owned and operated airport to
be wholly WIthIn the CIty'S control so that compatIble
zoning may be achieved.
(2) It IS more logIcal for the CIty of Los Angeles
boundary to be aligned WIth Bundy DrIve, WhICh is an
existIng street. The current boundary line between
the two CIties traverses the runway, associated
taxiway and aIrcraft tIedown area. The orIginal
AIrport boundary was aligned to conform WIth CentInela
Avenue. An expansIon of the AIrport during World War
II Involved re-routlng Centinela Avenue to Bundy
Drive to accommodate lengthenIng and paVIng the runway
to ItS eXIstIng SIze.

NOW, THEREFORE, thIS ResolutIon of Application is hereby
adopted and approved by the Ci ty Counc 11 of the CI ty of Santa
MonIca, and the Local Agency FormatIon CommissIon of Los Angeles
County is hereby requested to take proceedIngs for the annexation
of territory as descrIbed In ExhIbIt A, accordIng to the terms
and conditIons stated above and in the manner provided by the
Cortese-Knox Local Government Reorganization Act of 1985.
SECTION 2.
The Ci ty Clerk shall certI fy to the adoption
of thIS ResolutIon, and thenceforth and thereafter the the same
shall be In full force and effect.
