A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA SUPPORTING
THE REAUTHORIZATION OF
FEDERAL GENERAL REVENUE SHARING LEGISLATION
WHEREAS, the General Revenue Sharing program has provided
the City of Santa Monica with a stable source of funding to be
used for the provision of important community services; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Monica has
allocated each year's entitlement solely for the purpose of
support to local non-profit social service agencies; and
WHEREAS, these agencies provide essential social services to
those residents most in need, including disabled individuals,
senior citizens, youth and families, and the homeless; and
WHEREAS, services funded by local General Revenue Sharing
funds assist low-income and minority residents in obtaining
needed social services; and
WHEREAS, these agencies have already experienced decreases
in Federal funding over the past several years from non-City
sources; and
WHEREAS, the elimination of local General Revenue Sharing
funds would severely impact these agencies' ability to provide
needed services;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA NONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The city of Santa Monica opposes any further
reductions in General Revenue Sharing for FFY 1986.
SECTION 2. The City of Santa Monica, on behalf of the
community's social service agencies and residents, urges the
Administration and Congress to support the extension of a revenue
sharing program after 1986.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
