A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROCLAIMING THE
CONTINUED EXISTENCE OF THE LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Mun~c~pal Code Sect~on 2305 author~zes the
D~rector of Emergency Services to procla~m the existence or
threatened eXlstence of a local emergency when the City of Santa
Monlca ~s affected or l~kely to be affected by a publ~c calarn~ty
and the C~ty Counc~l ~s not In sess~on; and
WHEREAS, commencing on January 27, 1983, cond~ t~ons of
extreme per~l to the safety of persons and property have arisen
withln the City of Santa Mon~ca caused by storm, h~gh tldes, and
heavy surf; and
WHEREAS, the City Counc~l was not in seSSlon on January 27,
1983; and
WHEREAS, on January 27, 1983, the Dlrector of Emergency
Serv~ces of the C~ty of Santa Mon~ca d~d proclalm the existence
of a local emergency withln the C~ty of Santa Mon~ca; and
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1983, the Clty Council adopted
Resolut~on Number 6621 (CCS), rati fy~ng, conf~rming, and
approv~ng, the proclarnatlon of local emergency by the D~rector of
Emergency Serv~ces; and

WHEREAS, commenc1ng on March 1, 1983, cond1t10ns of extreme

WHEREAS, the City Counc11 was not 1n seSSlon at the time of
cond1t1ons giving rise to the emergency; and
WHEREAS, on March 1, 1983, the D1rector of Emergency
Serv1ces of the C1ty of Santa Monica did proclalm the existence
of a local emergency wl-thin the C1ty of Santa Mon1ca; and
WHEREAS, on March 8, 1983, the C1ty council adopted
Resolutlon Number 6642 tces), ratl-fYl-ng, confl-rming, and
approvlng, the proclamation of local emergency by the D1rector of
Emergency Servl-ces; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Government Code Section 8630, the C1ty
CounC11 has reviewed the need to contl-nue the local emergency,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The local emergency as procla1med by the
Dl-rector of Emergency SerV1ces on January 27, 1983, shall be
deemed to cont1nue to eX1st 1n the City of Santa Monica until its
terminat10n 15 procla:uned by the C1 ty Counc1l of the C1 ty of
Santa Monlca.
SECTION 2. The local emergency as procla1med by the
Director of Emergency Services on March 1, 1983, shall be deemed
to contlnue to eX1st 1n the City of Santa Monica until its
tenninat10n 1S proclaimed by the C1 ty Counc 11 of the C1 ty of
Santa Mon1ca.

SECTION 3. The C~ty Clerk shall cert~fy to the adoption of
th~s Resolut~ont and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
~n full force and effect.
