RESOLUTION NO.6 783
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA AUTHORIZING FUEL EFFICIENT
TRAFFIC t~NAGEMENT PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATION
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica recognize that it is in
the 1nterest of the national economy to promote the conservation of energy
resources and to reduce our nation's dependence on costly foreign oil; and
WHEREAS, fuel effiClent traffic signal management by the City
of Santa Monica will provide benefits to the local community in the form of
improved traffic flow, reduced fuel consuption, reduced vehicle operating costs,
reduced alr pollutant emissions, and improved safety due to smoother flow; and
WHEREAS, fundS have been established and are avallable through
the California Energy Commisslon for grants to local governments for efficient
traffic signal management proJects;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Councll authorizes the submlttal of an
applicatlon to the California Energy Commission for a grant for trafflc signal
management project; and
SECTION 2. The City Manager 1S authorized and empowered to
execute all necessary applications, contracts, and agreements to lmplement and
carry out the purposes specified ln this Resolut1on.
SECTION 3. The Clty Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Resolutlon, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and
effect.
