RESOLUTION NO. 6801(CCS)
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA DESIGNATING THE AREA BOUNDED
BY COLORADO, BROADWAY AND THE PROPERTY LINES
ON THE EAST AND WEST SIDES OF TWENTY-SIXTH
STREET AS AN UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT.
ORDERING THE REMOVAL OF POLES, OVERHEAD WIRES.
AND ASSOCIATED OVERHEAD STRUCTURES THEREFROM,
AND ORDERING THE UNDERGROUND INSTALLATION OF
WIRES AND FACILITIES FOR SUPPLYING ELECTRIC,
COMMUNICATION, AND SIMILAR OR ASSOCIATED
SERVICE.
WHEREAS, the City Councll on June 25, 1968, did adopt
Ordinance No. 773 (City Council Series), adding Chapter 9 to
Artlcle VII of the Santa Monlca Mun1cipal Code, establishing
regulations and procedures for overhead and underground utllity
facilltles; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, on February 11. 1969, did
adopt an approved utillty undergrounding program; and
WHEREAS, the C,ty Council deS1res to deslgnate the area
bounded by Colorado, Broadway and the property llnes on the east
and west sldes of Twenty-slxth Street; and
WHEREAS, the Clty Counc1l of the City of Santa Monica
hereby f1nds that such undergrounding 1S ln the general public
lnterest for the followlng reasons:
1. Such undergrounding will ellmlnate an unusually
heavy concentration of overhead distrlbution
facllltles;

2. Sald street 1S extens1vely used by the general
publ1C and carr1es a heavy volume of vehicular
traffic; and
3. Said street passes through an area WhlCh would
beneflt from the aesthetlc improvement
resultlng from such undergrounding.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOllOWS:
SECTION 1. That said C1ty Council proposes to 1n1t1ate
proceedings for the establlshment of an Underground Utility
District 1n the area bounded by Colorado, Broadway and the
property llne on the east and west sldes of Twenty-slxth Street.
all wlthtn the C1ty of Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. That not1ce hereby is given that on Tuesday
the 14th day of February, 1984, at 7:30 P.M. in the Counc11
Chambers located in the Ctty Hall. 1685 Main Street, Santa Monlca,
Cal1fornla, there shall be a public hearing before sa1d Clty
Councll for the purpose of determln1ng whether the publlC
necesslty, health, safety or welfare requlres the above descrlbed
1mprovement.
SECTION 3. That the Clty Clerk shall give notlce of the
hearing by post1ng a copy of thlS resolution on the Councll
Chamber door and by not1fying all affected property owners as
shown on the last equallzed assessment roll and ut111t1es
concerned by mail of the time and place of such hearing at least
ten (10) days prior to the date thereof.

SECTION 4.
That the City Clerk hereby is dlrected to
publlSh thlS resolution in the Evenlng Outlook on two succeSSlve
dates. the first publlcation to be made not less than ten (10)
days prlor to the date of the above public hearlng.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution. and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall
be ln full force and effect.
