RESOLUTION NO. 6820(CCS)
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA FINDING THE PUBLIC NECESSITY,
HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE REQUIRES, WITHIN A
CERTAIN DESIGNATED AREA, THE UNDERGROUND
INSTALLATION OF WIRES AND FACILITIES
SUPPLYING ELECTRIC, COMMUNICATION OR SIMILAR
OR ASSOCIATED SERVICES AND DESIGNATING SUCH
CERTAIN AREA AN UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT
AND ORDERING THE REMOVAL OF POLES, OVERHEAD
WIRES AND ASSOCIATED OVERHEAD STRUCTURES
WITHIN SUCH DISTRICT AND THE UNDERGROUND
INSTALLATION OF SUCH WIRES AND FACILITIES
WHEREAS, a public hearing has been duly and regularly
head pursuant to Resolution No. 6801 (City Council Series), on
the proposed improvement of an area bounded by Colorado, Broadway
and
the
east
and west sides of Twenty-Sixth Street by
undergrounding of utilities and appurtenant work thereto as
described in Resolut~on No. 6801 (CCS): and
WHEREAS, sa~d ~mprovement has been considered fully,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
The City Council hereby finds the public
necessity,
health,
safety and welfare requlres the above
described improvement in such des1gnated area.
SECTION
2.
The City Council hereby finds such
undergrounding
is in the general public interest for the
following reasons:
A. Such undergrounding will eliminate an unusually
heavy concentration of overhead distribution facilities: and
B. Said streets are extensively used by the general
public and carr~es a heavy volume of vehicular traffic.

SECTION 3. The area bounded by Colorado, Broadway and
the east and west sides of Twenty-Sixth Street is hereby declared
to be an underground utility district as provided by the Santa
Monica Municipal Code.
SECTION 4.
The City Council hereby orders the removal
of all poles, overhead wires and associated overhead structures
from within the designated underground utllity district and the
underground lnstallatlon thereini of all w~res and fac~11ties
required for supplying electric, communicat10n, or s1milar or
assoc1ated service.
SECTION 5.
The City Council hereby f~xes six (6)
months from the effective date of this resolution as the time
within which such removal and underground installatlon shall be
accomplished.
SECTION
6.
Upon
the
effective date of this
resolution, the City Clerk is directed to forthwith comply wlth
the provisions of Section 7906 of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code.
SECTION 7.
The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this Resolution,and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be 1n full force and effect.
