A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
PROCLAIMING APRIL 23, 1995, AS A "DAY WITHOUT VIOLENCE" IN THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA
WHEREAS, on Sunday, April 23, 1995, Drive By Agony, the Violence
Prevention Coalition of Los Angeles County, and Women Against Gun Violence, a
project of the American Jewish Congress, are JOintly sponsoring a march and
demonstration named. "HONOR THE VICTIMS, EMPOWER THE SURVIVORS; STOP
THE VIOLENCE NOW;" and
WHEREAS,thls event IS designed to Increase awareness and offer prevention
techniques for violent Crimes In our cOmmUnities, as well as proViding assistance to
VIctims of these Crimes, and
WHEREAS, the goal IS to organize hundreds of Los Angeles area organizations,
representing thousands of indiViduals, to change the way people think about guns and
to educate students and adults to see violence as a public health Issue that requires
strategies for prevention, and new ways of thinking about control of lethal weapons;
and
WHEREAS, the members of the Santa MOnica CommIssion on the Status of
Women actively support thiS effort and JOin the City of Santa MOnica In declaring April
23, 1995, as a "DAY WITHOUT VIOLENCE,"
