R-7693 'l e e RESOLUTION NO. 7693 (CCS) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA SUPPORTING THE PROPOSED EXTENSION OF THE BROWNING-FERRIS INDUSTRIES' SUNSHINE CANYON LANDFILL SITE WHEREAS, the city of Santa Monica has a need to transport nonhazardous solid waste to a landfill for disposal; and WHEREAS, the City of santa Monica is actively committed to seeking and initiating viable programs to mitigate tonnage of solid waste transported to landfills; and WHEREAS, Browning-Ferris Industries has shown to be responsible in the management and operation of the Sunshine Canyon Landfill, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The proposed extension to the Sunshine Canyon Landfill site as requested by Browning-Ferris Industries must be approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to ensure the continuation of a safe, economical and local means of solid waste disposal. SECTION 2. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is encouraged to initiate alternative methods of solid waste disposal and to encourage oi ties wi thin the boundaries of Los Angeles County to initiate programs in order to reduce reliance on the use of landfills for solid waste disposal. e e SECTION 3.
