RESOLUTION NO 9469 (CCS)

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
WAIVING THE APPLICATION FEE UNTIL APRIL 1,2000 FOR
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD STAFF APPROVAL OF MODIFICATION
TO OR REPLACEMENT OF NONCONFORMING SIGNS REQUIRED BY
SECTION 952210 (0) OF THE SIGN CODE
WHEREAS, Santa MOnica MUnicipal Code Section 952210 (d) of the
City's Sign Code establishes a 15-year amortization penod for the removal of
free-standing, roof, upper level, proJecting, and off-premises signs, Including
those sIgns which were prevIously animated or emitting signs, If these signs were
lawfully Installed prior to the effective date of Chapter 9 52-ApnI11, 1985, and
WHEREAS, the 15-year amortization penod ends on Apn111, 2000, and
WHEREAS, the City CounCil directed staff to establish a streamlined
approval process for the replacement of or modification to these nonconforming
signs,
WHEREAS, follOWIng the recommendatIon of the ArchItectural ReVIew
Board (ARB), the Planning Commission approved a resolution on November 17,
1999 that allows certain types of replacement signs or modifications to
nonconforming sIgns to be approved administratively by staff, and

WHEREAS, ResolutIon 9408 (CCS), establIshes a fee of $18400 for ARB
staff approvals, and
WHEREAS, staff recommends the fee associated with staff approvals be
waived until April 1, 2000 to encourage nonconforming sign owners to replace or
modify signs prior to the conformance date
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS
SECTION 1 The application fee of $18400 for ARB staff approvals establtshed
pursuant to Resolution 9408 (CCS) IS hereby waived until April 1, 2000 for ARB
staff approval of modifications to or replacement of nonconforming signs required
by Section 9 52 210(d) of the Sign Code After April 1, 2000, the $184 00 fee
established by Resolution 9408 (CCS) shall be In full force and effect
SECTION 2 The City Clerk shall certify the adoption of thiS Resolution and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be In full force and effect
