A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA SETTING THE AMOUNT OF THE
RELOCATION FEE REQUIRED BY SECTION 4.36 040 OF THE
SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, In June 1986, the City Council adopted Santa MOnica Municipal Code
Chapter4.36, the Tenant Relocation Assistance Ordinance ("Relocation Ordinance"), and
.
WHEREAS, Section 436020 of the Relocation Ordinance requires any landlord
who terminates or causes the termination of a tenancy for specific reasons to pay a
relocation fee to the displaced tenant, and
WHEREAS, the relocatIon fee required by the Relocation Ordinance has not been
adJusted since March of 1990, and
WHEREAS, Section 436040 of the Relocation Ordinance IS being amended to
reqUire the fee to be adjusted for inflation periodically by the percentage change In the
Rent of Primary Residence component ofthe CPI-W I ndex for the Los Angeles I Riverside I
Orange County area, as published by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of
Labor Statistics ("Rental I ndex"), between March 1990 and the date of preparation of the
City CounCil resolution, rounded to the nearest $50.00, and
WHEREAS, there has been an approximately 13 percent increase In the Rental
Index between March 1990 and March 1999,

NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS.
SECTION 1 Relocation fees pursuant to Section 4 36 040 of the Santa MOnica
MUnicipal Code are hereby set as follows

SECTION 2 The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and the
same shall be In full force and effect on the same date that Ordinance Number
