(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA REVISING THE CITY'S
WATER RATE STRUCTURE BY ESTABLISHING
A WATER SURCHARGE
WHEREAS, the Clty Council may establlshl amend of relvse
from time to tlme by resolutlon the rates and service charges to
be charged for supplying water serVlce to any customer, pursuant
to Section 7.12.010 of the Santa Monica Munlcipal Code; and
WHEREAS, lt has become necessary to shut down certaln water
wells supplying water to the City's customers because of a
contamlnantl and
WHEREAS I It has become necessary to ralse addltional revenue
to purchase lmported water to provlde contlnuous water service to
the Cityrs customers.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. A surcharge is added to the flrst two tlers of
the water commodlty rate 1n effect as of July 1, 19961 lS hereby
established as follows:

SECTION 2. The surcharge wlll be in effect from July 11
19961 to June 30, 1997. The Clty wll1 separately account for
surcharge revenues.
SECTION 3. Any amounts collected in excess of costs from
responS2ble part2es for the contaminat2on will be refunded or
credlted to customers of the water enterprise.
SECTION 4. The Clty Clerk shall certlfy to the adoptlon of
th1S Resolut1on, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
