A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
IK SUPPORT OF "HANDS ACROSS THE P ARKLANDS"
II\' RECOGNITION OF THE 20TH A~IVERSARY OF THE SANTA MONICA
MOUNTAINS NATIONAL RECREATION AREA
WHEREAS. the Crty of Santa Monica seeks to strengthen Its lInkages 'Vlth adjacent regIonal
open space resources for the benefit and use of the members of the Santa MOllIca community" and
Vv'HEREAS, the Santa Momca Mountams NatIonal RecreatIOn Area represents the regIOn's
largest and most Important undeveloped natural recreatIon area. and
V/HEREAS, the Santa Momca State Beach lIes w'lthm the recreatIon area and contrIbutes to
the vIabIlIty and Importance of the area for reSIdents and VISItorS alIke, and
WHEREAS, <'Hands Across the Parkland" IS bemg orgamzed to recogmze the 20th
annIversary ofthe recreatIOn area. and
\\t1IEREAS, the CIty'S RecreatIon and Parks ConurussIOn unanImously endorsed the event
at Its October 1997 meetmg,
KOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
RESOL VE AS FOLLO\VS
SECTION 1 The CIty CouncIl enthUSIastIcally supports "Hands Across the Parklands.', an
event planned for Apnl 19, 1998, m recogmtIon of the 20th anmversary of the Santa Momca
NatIOnal RecreatIOn Area
SECTION 2 The CIty Councll encourages all Santa Monica reSIdents to partIcipate m thIS
Important one-day event and to use the recreatIOn area to heIghten apprecIatIon and awareness of
the natural enVIronment protected WIthm ItS boundanes

SECTION 3 The City Clerk shall certIfY to the adoptIon oftms ResolutIOn. and thenceforth
and thereafter the same shall be III full force and effect
