RESOLUTION NO. 4512 (CCS)
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DECLARING
ITS OPPOSITION TO INDISCRIMINATE OIL
DRILLING IN SANTA MONICA BAY.
WHEREAS, the Federal government has ~ndicated a deslre
to lease offshore areas for o~l drilllng in locations ad]Ololng
the Clty of Santa Monica; and,
WHEREAS, oil drll1ing in the Santa Monica Bay would
constitute an immlnent danger and hazard to wildllfe, Santa Monica
Harbor, and the Santa Monica beaches and the use thereof by
resldents of the Clty of Santa Monica,
NOW, THEREFORE, the Clty Councll of the City of Santa
Monica does hereby resolve as follows:
SECTION 1.
That the Clty Counell hereby declares
its opposltion to lndlscrlmlnate oil drilling in areas offshore
from the City of Santa Monica.
SECTION 2.
The City Clerk shall certlfy to the
adoption of thlS resolutlon, and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be In full force and effect.

WHEREASr oil drilling in the Santa Monica Bay would
impair and interfere with developed shoreline recreational and
residential areas,
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa
Monica does hereby resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Santa
Monica does hereby OPPOSE the proposed offshore oil leases for
offshore oil exploration or extraction and all oil drilling in
areas offshore from the City of Santa Monica in the Santa Monica
Bay.
SECTION 2. That the City council of the City of Santa
Monica hereby directs that copies of this Resolution be sent
to other cities urging that they take similar action in opposition
to this proposal.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
