A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA PROVIDING FOR THE PRESERVA-
TION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT, INCLUDING RECORDS,
IN TIME OF WAR AS PERMITTED BY SECTION 1550
ET SEQ. OF THE MILITARY AND VETERANS CODE
WHEREAS, it is deemed desirable by the City Council of the
City of Santa Monica to take advantage of the provisions of Section 1550
et seq. of the Military and Veterans Code to provide for continuity of
local government in case of dlsaster.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA DOES REBOL VE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. ContinUlty of Government. In the event of the demise
or lncapacltation of a majority of the City Council members due to a major
disaster, the persons holding the following positions at the time of the
disaster, in the order set forth, shall succeed to the vacant offices until a
majority of the City Council offices are filled:
1. Chairperson, Planning Commlssion;
2. Chairperson, Personnel Board;
3. Chairperson, Recreation Commisslon;
4. Chairperson, Airport Commlssion;
5. Chairperson, Library Board;
6. Chairperson, Building and Safety Commission;
7. Chairperson, Electrical Board of Appeals;
8. ChaHperson, Plumbing and Mechanical Board of Appeals;
9. Chairperson, Commlssion on Older Americans.
The term "Chalrperson" shall refer to the presidlng office of the board or
commlssion at the time when the va-canies occurred.
Section 2. That the City Clerk shall forward copies of this resolution
to the State of Californla, Office of Emergency Services, Sa.cramento, California.
Sectlon 3. The Clty Clerk shall certify to the adoption of tlus
resolution and shall cause this resolution and his certification to be entered in
the Book of Resolutlons of the Councll of the Clty of Santa Monica.
