A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA SETTING A HEARING FOR THE PURPOSE
OF DETERMINING \'lHETHER OR NOT THE PUBLIC NECES-
SITY 3 HEALTH 3 SAFETY OR WELFARE REQUIRES THE
REMOVAL OF POLES 3 OVERHEAD WIRES 3 AND ASSOCIATED
OVERHEAD STRUCTURES AND TlfE UNDERGROUND INSTAL-
LATION OF WIRES AND FACILITIES FOR SUPPLYING
ELECTRIC, COMMUNICATION 3 OR SIMILAR OR ASSOCIATED
SERVICE FOR THE DISTRICT KNOWN AS CLOVER FIELD
BOULEVARD BETWEEN THE SANTA MONICA FREEWAY AND
SANTA MONICA BOULEVARD.
WHEREAS3 the City Counci13 on June 25, 19683 did adopt
Ordinance No. 773 (City Council Series) adding Chapter 9 to Article
VII of the Santa Monica Municipal Code, which chapter is titled as
follows:
IICHAPTER 9 - REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES RE OVERHEAD AND
UNDERGROUND UTILITY FACILITIES II; and
WHEREAS3 the City Counci13 on February 11, 19693 did adopt
a Priority List setting forth the initial phases of an approved
undergrounding program; and
WHEREAS, the undergrounding of certain Priorities on said
list have been completed and the undergrounding of other Priorities
are yet to be accomplished; and
WHEREAS 3 it is hereby deemed more economical and in the
public interest to underground utility facilities on a City street
scheduled for widening and resurfacing; and
WHEREAS 3 Clover Field Boulevard3 between the Santa Monica
Freeway and Broadway is scheduled for widening in the very near
future 3 it is desirable to underground the utilities prior to the
street widening; and
WHEREAS, both the Southern California Edison Company and
the General Telephone Company have indicated their willingness and

their ability to accomplish this undergrounding at this time,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That said City Council proposes to initiate
proceedings for the establishment of an Underground Utility District
embracing Cloverfield Boulevard from the Santa Monica Freeway to Santa
Monica Boulevard~ together with property abutting said Cloverfield
Boulevard within said limits.
SECTION 2. That notice hereby is given that on Tuesday,
the 26th day of . August , 1975, at 7:30 p.m. in the
Council Chambers located in the City Hall~ 1685 Main Street~ Santa
Monica, California, there shall be a public hearing before said
City Council for the purpose of determining whether the public
necessity, health, safety or welfare requires the above described
improvement.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall give notice of the
hearing by posting a copy of this resolut~on on the Council Chamber
door and by notifying all affected property owners as shown on the
last equalized assessment roll and utilities concerned by mail of
the time and place of such hearing at least ten (10) days prior to
the date thereof.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk hereby is directed to
publish this resolution in the Evening Outlook on two successive
dates, the first publication to be made not less than ten (10) days
prior to the date of' the above public hearing.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall
be in full force and effect.
