A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
COHMENDING THE MONTANA AVENUE
l1ERCHANTS DIVISION OF THE SANTA
!>10NICA CHAt.1BER OF COMMERCE FOR
ITS SPONSORING OF A TREE PLANTING
PROGRAM IN HONOR OF THE UNITED
STATES BICENTENNIAL AND SANTA
MONICA CENTENNIAL YEAR.
WHEREAS, 1976 is the Bicentennial year of the United
States; and,
WHEREAS, persons from many states of the Union reside
in the City of Santa Mon~ca; and,
WHEREAS, the Montana Avenue Merchants Dlv~sion of the
Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce has lnstituted, sponsored and
contributed to the plant~ng of fifty (50) trees along Montana
Avenue, representing the flfty (50) states of the Union, and,
WHEREAS, the Montana Avenue Merchants have collected
or contributed sufficient funds for the planting of said fifty
(50) trees; and,
WHEREAS, a ceremony will be held on July 2, 1976
which will commemorate the planting of the fiftleth tree,
representing the State of California.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the Montana Avenue Merchants Division
of the Santa Monxca Chamber of Commerce, Pat Patton, Cha~rman of
the program, be and is hereby commended for its efforts and the
generous contrlbutions of t1ffie, energy and money of the Montana
Avenue Merchants in conductl.ng th]~ Bl.centennial tree planting

program which has created a l~ving commernorat~on of each of
the fifty (50) states of the Unlon and has added to the beauty
and the cultural heritage of the City of Santa Monica.
SECTION 2. The C2ty Clerk shall cert~fy to the
adoptlon of thlS resolutlon, and thenceforth and thereafter
the same shall be ln full force and effect.
